Abstract

The three-level neutral-point-clamped converter has been widely used in medium voltage range for industrial applications, however, the unbalance distribution of power loss of three level NPC converter limit the output power, the three level active neutral point clamped (ANPC) converter provides more flow paths which can improve the balance of power loss distribution. Fault diagnosis in power electronic converters is necessary to prevent further damage, the open circuit switch fault of every device in three level ANPC converter is analyzed in this paper. The concept of open circuit switch fault diagnosis based on instantaneous power is introduced. Simulation and experiment results verified the effectiveness of the introduced fault diagnosis method.
