Abstract

Open access is an important topic at universities in Germany: for the scientists as producers of scientific publications, for the university administration as financial backers, and for libraries as information suppliers. This article gives an overview of the current discussions and the developments of open access at the universities. It focuses particularly on the expansion of institutional repositories and the use of open access journals, giving a short description of the information platform open-access.net. The author provides an outlook on the steps that need to be taken in the near future by university libraries and other parties in order to preserve access rights to scientific publications.
