Abstract

The attention of the writer was drawn to the presence of cataracts in a flock of 97 Cornish cocks aged about five months. Although the birds were well grown, many of them had recently lost condition. The affected birds had varying degrees of impairment of vision and held their heads at unusual angles, as though they were trying to see out of one eye. On examination, the pupillary reflexes of the birds was seen to be normal, the pupils regular in outline, and the iris normal in color. Thirty-seven (38%) of the birds shown appeared to have no abnormality of the eye. Thirty-eight (39%) birds showed what was classified as moderate cataract, and 22 (22%) birds showed a condition of the lens which was considered to be advanced
