Abstract
Relation of 1st trim AVF and CL at 1st and 2nd trim as a risk factor for PTB in 1026 women before 15 weeks. AVF, BV, aerobic vaginitis (AV) and Candida (CV) were scored according to definitions (1). M hominis and U urealyticum were cultured. CL was measured transvaginally. Short CL at 20–24 wks was predictive for PTB, but not at 10–14 wks. In patients with severe AV and/or Mh at 10–14 wks, cervix was shorter at 20–24 and at 30–34 wks than in other women ( Not BV or CV but other AVF types like AV or Mh are associated with a short cervix at 20–24 and 30–34 weeks. Causation of PTB may be mediated by AVF shortening the cervix. Donders GG. Definition and classification of abnormal vaginal flora. Best Pract Res Clin Obstet Gynaecol 2007; 21: 355–373.
