Abstract

Genetic testing is an important component of early detection and prevention of cancer for individuals and families with possible hereditary cancer predisposition. The literature confirms that appropriate referral rates have been historically low for these patients. It has also been demonstrated that genetic counselor involvement increases appropriate referral rates. The High-Risk Cancer Genetics Program (HRCGP) at NYU Langone Health implemented a public facing online cancer history questionnaire, which allows individuals to input data and receive notification if they are eligible for genetic counseling and testing for hereditary cancer.
