Abstract

Medication histories One important area in which pharmacy technicians can expand their roles is in taking patients’ medication histories. Adequate training is necessary, of course. In addition to directly interviewing a patient, the history-taking technician can call the community pharmacy or the pharmacy the patient uses and reconcile the results of the history with the refill and filling patterns. Technicians can effectively perform the bulk of the investigative work while the pharmacists can interpret and evaluate the history during the initial monitoring session.
