Abstract

Spore ontogeny in the Uredinales is considered in the light of methods of conidium production known to occur in ascomycetous Fungi Imperfecti. It is concluded that pycniospores are phialospores, aeciospores are meristem arthrospores, and urediniospores are sympodioconidia. Teliospores are produced either as terminal, chlamydospore-like cells of hyphae of determinate growth, as sympodioconidia, or as meristem arthrospores.
