Abstract

1. 1. A circadian rhythm in the glucagon-mediated lipacidaemic response was absent in the newly-hatched chick but was present in the bird aged 1 week. 2. 2. The peak plasma FFA concentrations of morning and afternoon birds aged 1 week were similar but that of the former was maintained for a longer period. 3. 3. The circadian rhythm did not develop in birds subjected to constant illumination; the hyperlipacidaemia was also decreased, irrespective of the time of day. 4. 4. The apparent sensitivity of the bird to glucagon increased during the first week in birds subjected to either 12- or 24-hr photoperiods.
