Abstract
The arc extinguishing performances are the most important performance of the circuit breaker. However, there is still no methods of onsite detection and evaluation. The arcing time is an important indicator of the arc extinguishing performance of the circuit breaker, which can reflect the characteristic quantity of the arc extinguishing performance of the circuit breaker. This paper introduces an onsite detection method for arcing time of circuit breakers. The arcing time is detected by detecting electromagnetic waves radiated during the breaking process of the circuit breaker. The circuit breaker simulation platform was established in the laboratory, and the arc generated during the breaking process of the circuit breaker was recorded by the high-speed camera, and the electromagnetic wave radiated during the breaking process was measured by the antenna. Relationship of duration of radiated electromagnetic waves and arcing duration was analysed, the results show that they are very consistent. Therefore, this method can be used to realize the charging detection of the arcing time of the circuit breaker. This method was used to perform multiple tests on site and a defect was found.
