Abstract

A theoretical relationship is presented between the liquid depth in a horizontal cylindrical tank and the throughput at the onset of drawdown of supernatent fluid into a downcomer. Experimental work, with a perspex model of the steam-water separating drum of a power generation boiler, is found to confirm this relationship.
