Abstract

We have investigated on-off intermittency observed in a mutually coupled PLL system. The typical time waveform of this intermittency is constrained around zero axis for some time and bursts out of it occasionally in an irregular manner. We have elucidated this phenomenon theoretically using the concept of semi-stable invariant manifold. Further, we have found both by computer simulation and experiments that the laminar phase distribution obeys the -3/2-power law for a wide range of coupling coefficient, which is one of the characteristics of on-off intermittency.
