Abstract

In this study students’ exam scores are compared between a traditional “on‐ground” anatomy course and an online anatomy course with the same learning objectives. Mean scores for lecture and lab exams were calculated for each cohort population. Exam scores of online students were significantly higher than exam scores of on‐ground students. The raw data of this study suggests that online learning is more effective than learning in the on‐ground traditional class room. Why is this the case? Current development of a hybrid anatomy course, marrying online learning with on‐ground learning, will help answer this question Further investigation of both population's demographics and previous education will also be necessary to eliminate any bias.
