Abstract

AAMI's Technology Management Council (TMC) has created three new e-forums, enabling AAMI members to ask each other questions on specific topics, discuss issues, network, and stay up-to-date on key issues. These online discussion groups focus on educational issues, topics affecting leaders of local and state biomedical associations, and a variety of other technology management issues. The listservs bring to five the number of AAMI's online discussion groups. Two other discussion groups, launched over the last year, are focused on quality systems and Joint Commission issues. All AAMI members can join any of the discussion groups that they would like. The Biomed Discussion Group is the broadest of AAMI's discussion groups. This forum enables AAMI members to discuss a variety of technology management issues, such as preventive maintenance strategies and certification. AAMI members can discuss, learn about, and participate in TMC projects; and access TMC documents. The Educators' Discussion Group is specifically designed to enable educators in the medical technology field to network and share ideas. The Biomedical Society Leaders Discussion Group expands the TMC's outreach effort to local and state biomedical associations. Leaders of biomedical societies will have a forum to share experiences, ideas, and best practices. The online discussion groups present a convenient way to generate new ideas. “Topics discussed and shared best practices in these groups may be the catalyst that one needs to foster improvement at the local (or even a broader) level,” says Richard Eliason, director of clinical engineering programs for ARAMARK Clinical Technology Services. To join a discussion group, visit www.aami.org/marketplace, log in as a member, click “e-forums” in the left column, and follow the simple instructions.
