Abstract

The spread of COVID-19 has been promoting online learning and telecommuting. When it comes to teaching mechanics of materials, just following theories and equations is boring and lack in realistic experience. To understand theories with realistic observation of deformation behaviors, finite element analysis is effectively introduced with movies of material testing. If an open source CAE system is employed, students can operate and experience visual observations of deformation behaviors without requiring software license fee. In this study, some examples of learning materials for mechanics of materisls using an open source CEA, Salome-Meca and Code-Aster here, are described.
