Abstract
What's so different about writing a recommendation letter for a student who is planning to enroll at another college? Don't you need the student's written consent to do this? Well, no … but you can't go wrong if you get the student's consent in writing. As I mentioned last month, you can write a recommendation letter that includes nondirectory information (e.g., grades and GPA) without written consent if you have evidence that the student is planning to enroll at another college (34 CFR §99.31(a)(2)). That means the student has submitted an admissions application to College B.
