Abstract

An online detection system based on 2D laser displacement sensors is proposed to measure the parameters of wheel-set. Firstly, the structure of the system is described, which is composed of the axial position sensor, the auto equipment identification (AEI), 2D laser displacement sensors, and IPC (Industrial Personal Computer). Secondly, the principle of the oblique incidence laser triangulation method is proposed in this paper. Then, the working principle of measuring the wheel size is introduced, including the flange height, the flange width, and wheel diameter. Finally, a field experiment was conducted to validate the system. The experimental results show that the measurement error of the profile parameters is ±0.2 mm, and the measurement error of the wheel diameter is ±0.5 mm. The system is rapid, accurate, and reliable. Besides, the consistency of the system is better than the manual measurement.
