Abstract

The transition period of organizational entry is critical for individuals as are the newcomer socialization strategies applied during it. Increasingly scholars have advocated for individuals to play a more proactive role, rather than relying solely on institutionally led socialization processes. The current research showcases how a career community tool can be used as a proactive socialization method upon entry into a first year faculty position. More specifically, a self-created, self-defined virtual career community was established in an effort to provide support and sensemaking during the transition from doctoral studies to professional practice.
