Abstract
Several registry studies have reported clinical improvement after percutaneous myocardial revascularization (PMR).1–5 The Potential Angina Class Improvement From Intramyocardial Channels (PACIFIC) trial reported results from the first randomized trial of PMR versus medical therapy, and improvement in angina pectoris, treadmill time, and quality of life (QOL) 1 year after PMR was found.6 After encouraging results with a different holmium yttrium-aluminum-garnet (holmium-YAG) laser and fiber optic system in a registry series,7 a randomized trial of PMR with a 1-mm, triple pulsed optical fiber versus maximal medical therapy was begun. This investigation reports the results of this prospective, randomized multicenter trial using the Eclipse system (Eclipse Surgical Technologies, Sunnyvale, California).
