Abstract
Summary Surface-related multiples can not be handled correctly by many migration algorithms and hence should be removed in early stages of processing. However, multiples are also signals which bring the information of subsurface structure. In the last few years, great advancements have been made in the field of using multiples, especially for the reverse time migration of multiples (RTMM). Sigsbee2b model test by RTMM and application of RTMM to real marine data with large salt structure where easily occurs strong energy surface-related multiple indicated its advantage. However, we also want to know if it is also effective in area without salt structure. In this paper, based on our previous study of multiples migration with one-way wave equation method which has higher calculation efficiency compare to RTMM, we mainly focused on the analysis of multiples migration in real marine seismic data without large salt structure. A simple numerical model test show the advantage and disadvantage of multiples migration, and then we apply multiples migration method to a 2D real marine seismic data acquired in South China Sea and got some conclusions that need to be noticed when used in real data.
