Abstract

In this work, the Ag3VO4/diatomite composites with different ratio were successfully synthesized through one-step method. Through relevant characterizations, the results indicated that a large number of Ag3VO4 nanoparticles attached to the surface and pores in the diatomite. The photocatalytic performances of the samples were analyzed using degradation of RhB in aqueous solution under visible light irradiation (λ ≥ 400 nm). The results showed that the Ag3VO4/diatomite composite exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity when the diatomite content reached 50%. After 40 min irradiation, almost 96% of RhB can be degraded. The photodynamic kinetic constant of the 50%-Ag3VO4/diatomite composite is 3.57 times higher than that of pure Ag3VO4 nanoparticles. In addition, the photocatalyst can be repetitively used with a high photocatalytic activity. The photocatalytic mechanism also has been discussed. It is believed that the Ag3VO4/diatomite composites have extensive potential applications in waste water treatment.
