Abstract
A convenient method for the one-pot synthesis of furans from β-ketoesters and α-halo ketones was developed using an acid- andbase-supported reagent system ‘Na 2 CO 3 /Al 2 O 3 -PPA/SiO 2 '. Thecondensation reaction of triketones, which are formed from the reactionof β-keto esters with α-halo ketones in the presenceof Na 2 CO 3 /Al 2 O 3 ,was promoted by PPA/SiO 2 to give the correspondingfurans in good yields. This method is simple and easy to perform incomparison with stepwise processes, and the yields are good.
