Abstract

Tens of cooling technologies have been proposed as alternatives to vapor compression systems for cooling and heating. But developing a cooling technology with technologically meaningful performance is still a challenge. We have developed a machine for gas cooling cycle consisting of two isochoric and adiabatic processes, which is called One-way Oscillating Flow Cycle (OOFC) in this work. 76.3% of Carnot efficiency is obtained at room temperature based on one-dimensional computational fluid dynamic model with considering various losses and thus should have high accuracy. The cooling capacity are dependent on the size and can be scaled up to megawattpowerratings. Furthermore, OOFC cooler can achieve a large temperature glide absorption and rejection. Thus, OOFC cooler could be a promising alternative to vapor compression systems.
