One query to retrieve XML and Relational Data

Abstract

This paper presents a way to query databases of different models, namely XML and the relational model. As they possess some robust features in data exchange and extraction. Also, the tremendous amount of research to query data presented in these two models makes integrating relational and XML databases very appealing and shows the necessity of their existence side by side. At this point, we attempt to define a system able to retrieve data regardless of the nature of their models. Users are not expected to know several query languages at once, they can extract data represented in the two aforementioned models by a single query language, that is not necessarily the query language associated with the model in question. Thus, we will be able to query data regardless of their models.
