Abstract
A new report on mathematics courses for teachers has been published by the committee on the undergraduate program in mathematics (CUPM).1 the 1961 cupm report2 led to the introduction of new courses for elementary teachers and a flood of textbooks all claiming that they had implemented the spirit of the cupm report. No doubt the next few years will see even more texts making the same claim for the 1971 report of CUPM.
