Abstract

A new approach to charge-coupled device (CCD) clocking has been developed that uses a single clock signal and dc bias on a device structure previously used for two-phase clocking. The one-phase approach results in improved operation by simplifying the clock circuit, reducing power consumption, and simplifying scanning of large CCD arrays.
