Abstract

Abstract The Judeo-Persian texts from the Afghan Ginza provide us with unique information about the Jewish communities in Central Asia before the Mongol invasion. Among these texts, some letters can be considered not only the earliest evidence of the New Persian language, but more specifically the earliest evidence of the epistolary tradition in New Persian. This paper examines the opening sections of these letters in order to demonstrate and discuss the changes and the evolution of the opening formulae over time.
