Abstract

A diffuse approximation meshless method based on the discrete ordinates equation is presented to solve transient radiative transfer problems, and the transient term is discretized by employing the fully implicit scheme. We consider transient radiative heat transfer problems in both homogeneous (constant refractive index, in this case ) and graded-index media bounded by a slab. Results obtained using the proposed meshless method are compared with published results to demonstrate the flexibility and accuracy of the method. In some cases, such as a step-shaped pulse boundary condition, the diffuse approximation meshless method presents false diffusion characteristics, but apart from these types of cases, the proposed diffuse approximation meshless method could be used to solve transient radiative transfer problems in homogeneous and graded-index media with sufficient spatial and angular discretizations.
