ONE CONSIDERATION ON CHARACTERISTICS OF RESIDENTS' APPRAISAL AT EVALUATING THE QUALITY OF TRAFFIC ENVIRONMENT IN RESIDENTIAL AREAS

Abstract

At evaluating the quality of traffic environment in residential areas, the phisical measures (noise levels, carbon monoxide levels, nitrogen oxide levels, sulphur oxide levels, numbers of traffic accidents, etc.) have been used to evaluate the environment from each aspect, so far. But these measures can't express the quality of traffic environment comprehensively. In this study the conscious measures are introduced to evaluate the environment. They can express mental and delicate aspects (uneasiness of traffic accidents occurrence, uneasiness of walking, children's playing, and etc., nuisances of traffic noise, vibration, etc.) At the result of this study these conscious measures relate to phisical measures closely, so they are useful for evaluating each aspect of the quality of traffic environment.Furthermore, by using the statistical analysis (factor analysis and multiple regression analysis) comprehensive traffic environment is evaluated here.
