Abstract
A necessary and sufficient condition for a finite dimensional Tchybycheff space of real functions on a real set containing its endpoints to contain a 1-codimensional Tchebycheff subspace is given. Examples of n-dimensional Tchebycheff spaces on closed intervals that do not contain ( n − 1)-dimensional Tchebycheff subspaces are given for all n ⩾ 3.
