Abstract
The propagation of a sinusoïdal electromagnetic wave in periodically stratified media is studied from the amplitude equation of the transverse field. A dispersion relation is given and the propagation conditions are deduced. The Bragg reflection conditions and the analogy with the electronic band theory in solid crystal are discussed.
