Abstract

Objective To study the cytolytic effect of D417 strain of Newcastle disease virus (NDV)on small cell lung cancer cell line NCI-H446 and normal cell line HFL-1. Methods Death rates of NCI-H446 and HFL-1 cells were measured through methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium eolorimetric as-say after the cells were infected by NDV strain D417 in vitro.Pathological changes of NCI-H446 cells were observed under light and electron microscopes. Results NDV strain IMl7 killed NCI-H446 cells.and the eell death rate was positively correlated with viral dose and incubation time.Strain D417 also kill-ed HFL-l cells, but the death rate of infected HFL-1 cells was lower than that of NCI-H446 cells under the same condition. After strain D417 infection.the cytopathogenic effect and fusion of NCI-H446 cells were found under the light microscope, apoptosises were found by electron microscopy. Conclusions NDV strain D417 has the ability to kill small cell lung cancer cells and a relatively less influence on nor-mal cells. Key words: Newcastle disease virus; Carcinoma, small cell; In vitro
