Abstract

e20541 Background: Access to palliative care is growing nationally, yet optimal methods for integration remain unclear. Input from oncologists is critical to the acceptance and utility of any delivery model. The University of Wisconsin implemented automatic palliative care consultation (APCC) for hospitalized patients with advanced, incurable cancer. To evaluate this process change, physician satisfaction and approaches to palliative care were evaluated before and after implementation of APCC. Methods: Attending oncologists were surveyed after supervising on the inpatient oncology service (Survey 1). For each patient discharged, oncologists were questioned about their satisfaction with hospitalization and discharge, perception of the patient’s expectations for long-term care, and impact of APCC. The patient’s primary oncologists were also surveyed post-hospitalization. (Survey 2).
