Abstract

Partially coherent X-ray in-line Gabor holography is studied based on the theory of partial coherence. Using asymptotic expansion methods, the relations between the coherent degree and the resolution (contrast) are obtained. Both transverse and longitudinal resolution and image contrast decrease when the coherent degree decreases and the improvement of X-ray coherence has little effect on the imaging quality if the coherence is high enough. The numerical examples are in good agreement with the analytic results. A criterion on the coherent length is proposed based on the calculating results to get high quality holography.
