Abstract

In this extended artist statement, creative researcher Annie Briard describes the importance of walking the land as a practice in phenomenological inquiry and to inform considerations for audience and affect. Four landscape-oriented artworks ranging from print to expanded photography and immersive media installation are reflected upon within the context of the Anthropocene. The artist recounts some of her past expeditions and the resulting works created around climate change. Possibilities for imaging future lands are considered through the comparison of past and present viewpoints as well as studio experiments employing automatism, chance and analogue apparatuses.
