Abstract

Equilibration in the crystallization of deep-seated silicate melts is an idealized and often confusing concept. It is suggested that the petrologist9s term “equilibrium crystallization,” as applied to magmatic processes be replaced by “reversible crystallization,” and that “irreversible crystallization” be used in place of “disequilibrium crystallization.”
