Abstract
Based on a set partition of the symmetric group S n a generic determinantal identity and its permanent analogue are derived. By an appropriate Möbius inversion we obtain an existing determinantal identity. We also get a permanent analogue for the latter. All identities hold for both the generic commuting and noncommuting cases.
