Abstract

In this paper we consider a degenerate nonlinear parabolic system which models spatio-temporal patterns generated by bacterial colonies. A three-dimensional phase space analysis of wave fronts in this model system is performed. The existence of a sharp wave front for a minimum speed in addition to smooth wave fronts for large speeds is shown. Further, an accurate numerical computation of such wave front solutions is presented.
