On Translation Strategies of Chinese Run-on Sentences under Translation Variation Theory

Abstract

The study of run-on sentences is one of the hot topics in contemporary Chinese linguistic research. Professor Zhao Yuanren’s concept of “mini sentence is fundamental” explains the reason for the prevalence of run-on sentences in Chinese, touching upon the essence of Chinese expression. Guided by Translation Variation Theory, this article takes the translation practice of the Biography of Li Yanlu, the first chapter of Biographies of Historical Figures of the CPC in Mudanjiang as an example to explore translation strategies for Chinese run-on sentences through methods such as addition and adaption.
