Abstract

The variational method for the scattering problem in its integral form is examined from the point of view of the necessary criterion of the calculus of variation. This leads to the fact that Schwinger variational method requires a slight change. The necessary modification is suggested. An alternative form of the functional which corresponds exactly to the integral form of the variational method in its differential form is also proposed.
