Abstract

Global sensitivity analysis (GSA) with a potential design model is employed to estimate the influences of uncertain geotechnical parameters on the design parameter, aiming to reduce the latter’s uncertainty effectively and contribute to the reliability-based design (RBD). GSA of a tunnel support case is illustrated and presented in figures for reference. Results demonstrated that GSA can select the most sensitivity parameter and identify the non-influential parameter for the RBD. Additionally, it has been proved that GSA could ascertain and interpret the extreme situations in RBD, and a feasible approach to the RBD using the GSA output data is proposed.
