Abstract

The aim of this paper is to present how to interpret properly the results when modelling electromagnetic devices. We will focus especially on electrical values such as current, voltage, electrical power, copper losses in stranded or solid conductors. The coupling between electromagnetic field and electric circuit equations in 2D is becoming well known. Many people have studied the topic. Two approaches have been developed: the indirect coupled approach1 and the direct approach. In the latter case, there are mainly two methods: the integro-differential method2 and the direct method1,3,4 The latter method seems to be more efficient(in terms of speed and memory requirements)5. After developing this coupling, the way of applying it is not so obvious: the choice of the geometry to study, according to the symmetry, is sometimes difficult; the interpretation of the electrical power in solid and stranded conductor is not clear.
