Abstract

Mode-locked fibre lasers can show fractal dynamics when they work on breathing soliton regime. Here, we investigate the existence range of this intriguing phenomena by varying the laser parameters including the modulation depth of saturable absorbers and the net cavity dispersion by extensive numerical simulations. It is found that this phenomena can exist in a relatively large range of laser parameters, indicating that fractal dynamics could be observed in many mode-locked lasers. Thus, mode-locked lasers provide an excellent platform to investigate fascinating dynamics of fractals.
