Etude du changement qui s'est opere dans le domaine de la physique theorique depuis une quarantaine d'annees, definissant une nouvelle finalite a la discipline scientifique qui consiste a etablir une unification des forces fondamentales de l'univers. L'A. examine les fondements empiriques en vue d'une grande theorie unifiee (GUT) des forces electromagnetiques et nucleaires qui, unies a la force gravitationnelle, doit donner lieu a une theorie du tout (TOE)
