Abstract

The understanding of the mechanisms of ice failure over small areas of a wide Arctic offshore structure is critical to the derivation of local design ice pressures. The relationships between the different parameters related to the failure of the ice and those related to the local ice pressures are not fully understood. This paper discusses some of these relationships and describes the methods for the derivation of local ice pressure area curves for the design of wide Arctic offshore structures.
