Abstract
Abstract The theory of heat conducting nematic liquid crystals with stretchable director is considered. The theory of micropolar media with stretch is reviewed and the appropriate field equations are presented. The thermodynamics of the nematic liquid crystals is studied and a set of constitutive equations are derived. The explicit equations of nematodynamics are obtained and some of their features are discussed. The equilibrium state and the rectilinear plane flows are also considered and some simple solutions are presented.
