Abstract

The Schrodinger equation describing the interaction of a Bose-Einstein condensate of an ideal gas with an electromagnetic field is derived. Its solutions allow one to find the evolution of the radiation intensity and that of the populations of coherent atomic states with different recoil momenta and can be used for describing such effects as light scattering, light amplification, amplification of atomic beam intensity (an atomic laser), and induced transparency.
