Abstract

Many time-related expressions are obtained through the expansion of the meaning of the spatial words. For example, the temporal meanings of the spatial words, '앞 front', '뒤 behind', '틈 gab' is gained from the metaphorical expansion of spatial expressions. Because time is not visible physical phenomena. However, it is not always be true. If time expressions are gained simply from metaphorical expansion of spatial expressions, most that represent the spatial relationship can take freely temporal noun as their arguments. However, as see the (1), '길다 long / 짧다 short ' or '멀다 far / 가깝다 close ' take temporal noun '시간 time' as its argument, but '얕다 shallow / 크다 big / 넓다 wide ' cannot take so.
