Abstract

According to recent findings the tropospheric-stratospheric temperature in the tropical atmosphere exhibits long range power-law persistence, which becomes stronger as the altitude increases. Because the ozone content is closely associated with the solar radiation and temperature we explore this effect in the vertical ozone distribution. We therefore analyze the tropical monthly mean ozone volume mixing ratios during `1980–2014, which is based on model simulations at heights 30−50km. The results obtained confirm that the modeled ozone data do not exhibit long-range power law correlations and therefore are not biased by a persistent signal.
