Abstract

The decay of thermodynamic fluctuations of magnetization in cubic ferromagnets is studied: First, with the methods of the thermodynamics of irreversible processes. This treatment leads to the diffusion equation for the fluctuations of magnetization and the entropy production equation, but with the kinetic coefficient undetermined. Next, within the framework of the constant coupling approximation, a method for treating the decay of fluctuations of magnetization in Heisenberg (cubic) ferromagnets with general spin s is outlined and followed in detail for s = 1. The diffusion equation for the fluctuations of magnetization is derived, valid in the whole range of temperature. The magnitude of the calculated diffusion coefficient at the Curie point is in very good agreement with that recently measured in iron. A discussion concerning previous papers on this subject is given.
