Abstract

In this paper, a new approach is developed for finding the optimal stack filter which minimizes noise subject to constraints on its structural behavior. It is proven that the optimal stack filter is a combination of the median filter which has the same window width as the stack filter and a set of maximum and minimum filters which are attributed to the structural constraints. Design examples for 1-D signal processing are provided. >
